Similar to Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4, Absolute Doom includes Marvel heroes and villains and Mythic items related to them. This includes Captain America’s Shield, Doctor Doom’s Arcane Gauntlets, War Machine’s Arsenal, and more. While some of these help with combat and mobility more than others, each Mythic allows players a unique rotation compared to seasons without superheroes. Players can find these items in Doom and Avengers Chests or by defeating hero or villain Fortnite NPCs who drop Mythics named after them. The latest update has provided a necessary buff to Shuri’s Black Panther Claws and nerfed War Machine’s Hover Jet.

Fortnite has buffed Shuri’s Black Panther Claws Mythic item to increase a player’s sprint speed and expand the range of the pounce ability. The boost to sprint speed is intended to allow players to close the gap between each other, similar to the Nitro Splash in Fortnite Wrecked. Before this change, many players had deemed Shuri’s Black Panther Claws “useless” compared to other Mythics in the loot pool. Beyond improving the item itself, Epic Games has also made it available as floor loot and in the randomized item rotation in chests. War Machine’s Hover Jet was also nerfed, primarily its availability in Avengers Chests as Shuri’s Black Panther Claws were made more common. This change in rarity may limit how many players are seen flying around the battle royale island using the Hover Jet.

Because many players considered War Machine’s Hover Jet overpowered, it was included in most weapon rotations. While War Machine’s Hover Jet was widely criticized for being overpowered, the community suggested potential improvements to the Black Panther Mythic. Like other live service games, Epic Games often considers community feedback on possible adjustments for Fortnite weapons and items. It regularly sends many players a survey about a given season and possible future content to gauge what the community is interested in or disinterested in. Although some seasons are marred by controversy, this allows players to have a say in which aspects of the game may be worked on.

As Epic Games continues to update Fortnite, the Absolute Doom Mythics may see further changes as the season continues. With the season set to end on November 2, there’s still a lot of potential for subsequent nerfs and buffs.
